The luhya culture.

In luhya land,bulls are highly honoured as they play a vital role in the cultural life of the Abaluhya community.Among the Isukha and Idakho people who are famous for bullfighting,the elderly are accorded a good send-off in cases of death.To show respect,bulls are used to fill up the old's man grave with soil,for it's believed by doing so the deceased's spirit will rest in peace.If the custom is not followed,the late will haunt the family.

Bullfighting is accompanied by the following series of rituals.

1.Only a special person is selected to sing war songs.

2 All bulls are made to live in isolation from other animals as a way of keeping them wild.

3.Young bulls are trained for battles and are paired with their peers during training.Some are fed with a concontion of Busaa and a few puffs of marijuana introduced hours before the fight.

4.The bulls are exposed to traditional drugs.

5.Lastly,the bull is always fed by a specific person who maintains the same piece of cloth for easy recognition.Bright coloured clothes are not allowed.
